About
Novilux, founded in 2019, has advanced its Single Molecule Counting (SMC™) technology to create a new standard in sensitivity for Point‑of‑Care diagnostics. The company's Phoenix system delivers world‑class sensitivity — surpassing Central Lab performance — along with rapid time‑to‑result and low operating cost.
Our focus on performance, simplicity and manufacturability has led to:
-
A novel, low‑cost, confocal architecture optimized for single‑photon counting in multiplexed assays.
-
Purpose‑built fluidic and process components - pumps, valves, centrifugal separation, magnetic handlers, and environmental controls, designed specifically for SMC™ point‑of‑care workflows.
-
A reagent architecture suitable for any immunoassay and blood chemistry testing.
-
A versatile, two‑piece consumable design engineered for scalability and low production costs.
To ensure result integrity, Novilux developed SAFE (System and Assay Fidelity Evaluation), a run‑time QC module built into the Phoenix instrument. SAFE applies image‑based and photon‑level signal analysis to monitor each stage of the SMC™ process in detail. In development, it reveals subtle process anomalies, enabling targeted refinements to ultimately produce a highly robust and repeatable assay workflow. In commercial operation SAFE verifies results.
Point‑of‑Care systems run one sample at a time, making new assay development slow and resource‑intensive. To overcome this constraint, Novilux created the Rapid Development Platform (RDP), a multiplexed SMC™ assay development instrument enabling testing of hundreds of samples in parallel. The RDP sharply accelerates new content development for the Phoenix Point‑of‑Care platform.
The Result: unprecedented sensitivity, multiplexed biomarker measurement and a robust, rapid, rigorously validated diagnostic process ... delivered cost effectively at the Point‑of‑Care.

Technology Overview
Instruments | Assays | Consumables
Novilux' novel innovations in immunoassay design, photon-counting optics, fluidics, consumable architecture, image and signal processing, and reagent chemistry deliver exceptional sensitivity while significantly reducing cost.
-
Simplicity by Design - Novilux begins with a simple consumable consisting of just two components. Eliminating parts, valves, specialized coatings, electronics, and tight tolerances reduces recurring operational costs.
-
Purpose-Built Engineering - Critical instrument subsystems are designed and manufactured in-house. By focusing exclusively on the capabilities required for each subsystem, Novilux avoids unnecessary complexity, third-party profit margins and excess costs, resulting in a lower overall system cost.
-
"Instrumenting the Instrument"- Novilux SAFE QC was implemented from the outset. Comprehensive real-time characterization of every critical step in the assay process, for every sample, was essential to development of an optimized, robust, and highly repeatable assay process.
-
Integrated Technologies - The careful development and integration of multiple advanced technologies were required to create the Phoenix System. Extensive verification and validation using CLSI protocols have demonstrated the effectiveness of the approach and proven platform performance.
Novilux' technology portfolio is protected by 33 issued patents, with many additional patents pending. Intellectual property protection extends through 2040 and beyond, creating a strong and durable competitive barrier.
Team Overview
Testing at the Point-of-Care has potential to simultaneously improve patient care while reducing overall medical costs. But, without skilled technicians to operate equipment it also has the highest demands for ease of use, rigorous run-time quality control, robust operation, and low cost.
The Novilux team has employed their diverse skillset, superb creativity, and collaborative mindset to develop an array of key technologies needed for ultra-high performance while achieving operational simplicity for practitioners at the Point-of-Care.
